Perfection

I was going through some older photos and I found this shot:

I had forgotten about this! We have a playscape in our front yard and Alexandra yelled out to me that she found some eggs that were decorations. Not knowing that they were real, she picked one up to show me. Dave & I were amazed to find this perfect nest built in a silk flower wreath on the playscape. I was in awe with the perfection of the inside of the nest - it was amazing to witness!

Fabric bags are it!

Thank you, Green Bag Lady for the great idea of the fabric reusable bags! I made a bunch to have in the office for all purchases (I have some fun patterns like Monet style gardens, fun heart prints, cow print flannel, sunshine) and have started making gift bags out of an old bridesmaid dress! I got this really cool silver dress that I am transforming into smaller gift bags! I'll have pics up as soon as I have those finished.

If you're interested in gift bags or other bags for your weddings or personal use, please contact me! I've gotten a great response from the ones I have already handed out! Please be sure to reuse them!!

What's wonderful about these new bags is not just the fact that they're fun to make but it's a great way to recycle dresses that would be sitting in closets, or fabric that is just too small for anything else! Thank you for helping keeping the Earth Green!

Keeping It GREEN!

Wow, I have been bit by the green bug, haven't I? It's amazing how much I am researching and figuring out that we're already doing a lot already! here are some more:

~ By offering all clients online photo albums, we are minimizing waste with extensive proof books. Couples have the ability to share their photos locally as well as globally

~ We have a mini garden in the front yard - right now it's home to some beautiful flowers, fingerling carrots, lettuce basil, and green beans. I think the local groundhogs are enjoying them more than we are!

Paper or Fabric?

Do you remember back in the day when grocery stores would ask, "paper or plastic?" Then that dropped out of fashion because paper was too expensive...now plastic is no longer good for the environment.

So now I have decided to do away with plastic altogether! Starting today, I will no longer hand purchases in plastic bags but in fabric bags that I have made out of scrap fabric! I found this really cool lady who makes these bags and donates them so that people can use them for grocery shopping. She was kind enough to post her pattern and I copied it and adjusted it according to my customers' needs and voila! A new GREENER bag!

Along these lines, I am offering all clients of Parsons Photography and Nifi's Wedding Planning a chance to recycle their garments for totes (wedding dresses, slips, petticoats, bridesmaid dresses, mothers' dresses, anything that you can provide at least 1 yard of) to hold their wedding albums (all Parsons Photography clients automatically get a canvas monogrammed tote with album purchase, you now have the option to have one made).

Please email me if you have any questions about these new bags and if you would like one recycled with your fabric!

Here are a couple of quick pics of the one I made this morning for Mary picking up her engagement album - she doesn't know about this yet as she will be here in a half hour! LOL!

Going GREEN!

Yes, you read it right! Parsons Photography is going GREEN! We have already made some subtle changes:
~ CFL bulbs in the office and throughout the house
~ the computers, printers, etc are plugged into control outlets to save energy
~ we recycle ink cartridges
~ we recycle paper from print outs and unwanted photos - or errors!!
~ we don't use plastic water bottles, we serve fresh spring water
~ by shooting in primarily digital, we reduce the waste of processing chemicals and we also reduce waste with our proof books by not having printing companies print out lots of indivdual photos - we fit as many as we can on one sheet of paper and bind it into a book.

More changes are coming! My kids got me started with "Keeping the Earth Green" - I think it's a Disney Channel tagline, but it really got me thinking about keeping the Earth green! And carrying it through the businesses! Stay tuned for more changes!

Rosie & Orion's Engagement Session

Rosie & Orion braved this crazy New England weather this morning...and the geese at Lyman Orchard. Wow, I thought models were temperamental...try convincing a goose that a camera is not food! They switched our plans pretty quickly, but we had fun anyway!

Nikki's Bridal Shower

This past weekend was also Nikki's bridal shower - Nikki and her fiance, Wil, live in North Carolina so traveling to Connecticut is sometimes a challenge! Her family picked the perfect day to have her backyard garden theme shower! There was a wonderful spread of finger sanwiches, hummos, dips, veggies...amazing! Then, in typical Greek fashion, Nikki's father invited all the women to the deck (where the men were lounging) to enjoy a Greek meal - lamb, chicken, shrimp, tarama, dolmathes, spanolopeta, tiropeta, feta, olives, bread, salad, pasta (there was more, but I stopped there - LOL!).ZHTW H ELLAS!

Vinnie & Cheryl's Engagement Session

For those who know me, you know I'm always up for a challenge, right? Well, how about getting up at 5 AM for a shoot that did not involve a sunrise? Vinnie & Cheryl had their engagement shoot at Mohegan Sun this weekend - it was a blast! I usually save the "pooped out on the couch" shot for the wedding, but I couldn't resist with the sparkly background and Cheryl looked so darned comfy! :)

Mary & Dave's Engagement Session

We had a talk with the rain gods this morning and I asked them (rather politely) to please wait until Mary & Dave have the morning at Wickham Park! Thankfully they listened to me - we took the haze and the humidity instead and had fun!

Thank you to Rhonda Lee at Wickham Park for allowing us to roam the gardens!
